Woke up today to the exciting news that our upcoming short film, ‘Some Things Won’t Sleep’ has been given the National Screen Institute Drama Prize for 2013. Every year, four teams are given training, mentorship and 10k in cash funding + 25k in in-kind services, to make their short film through NSI. My producer Andre Pettigrew and I are so honored to be one of the teams selected this year to participate in this program. I literally cannot wait to make this movie!

Stay tuned for lots of updates. I will be in Manitoba from March 12-24 to train and prep for the upcoming shoot!

Here is the article as it was released in the Chronicle Herald and Truro Daily News:
“Truro filmmakers Andre Pettigrew and Leah Johnston are one of four teams to win the National Screen Institute 2013 Drama Prize.

The drama prize gives emerging filmmakers $10,000 cash and up to $25,000 in services toward the development and production of a short film of up to 10 minutes in length.

Teams receive training by industry experts from across Canada in writing, directing and producing at the institute’s headquarters in Winnipeg. They will continue to receive guidance and mentoring over the next year in their home communities.

New Waterford filmmaker Ashley McKenzie won an NSI Drama Prize for her short film When You Sleep, which was screened at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and was part of Telefilm’s Not Short on Talent program at the 2012 Cannes Film Market.”
