Film Update: It’s the Final Countdown
You heard it right, film funders! We are moving into the final stages of post-production with our film.
After a brief but much needed Christmas break, we came back full-force in the new year, with our editor, Shawn Beckwith and I moving into picture-lock less than a week ago.
For those of you not familiar with the term, “picture-lock”, it more or less is what it sounds like; after watching the film repeatedly, cutting tiny bits here and there and then rewatching, we finally decided it was time to stop! We matched the picture to the final music and the voice-over (which we recently finished recorded at local recording studio, Postman Post-Production) and locked it down. That means NO MORE changes to the actual cutting of the film. AND it means it’s time to start designing the other elements of the movie, such as the visual effects and the sound. The reason it’s ordered that way, is you don’t want to work on any of these other things until you’ve locked the picture, because, for instance, if you may change the length of a particular cut, then it has a domino effect and would change everything else that goes with it- the music, the effects, the sound. So making the mistake of working on any of these elements before you’ve locked picture can end up being VERY time-consuming, not to mention redundant for everyone involved.
With the film and music looking and sounding as good as we could possibly get them, we are so to start tackling the film’s more detailed elements; such as the sound design and visual effects!
AND we now have an end date in sight. As of February 21st the film will be officially done! After this week’s sound design and visual effects work, we will be flying to Toronto to work with our in-kind sponsor, Deluxe, on the color correction, mastering, and, last but not least, our deliverables, which include physical copies of the film to be sent out to festivals in the coming months. So, it’s a very exciting time for our film, as you can imagine.
