American Dollhouse
American Dollhouse, directed by Leah Johnston and Chris Barnett, was an interactive theatrical exhibit that transformed an art gallery in Los Angeles into a life-sized dollhouse. What began as merely a photoseries evolved into a full-scale theatrical experience which allowed audience to explore the various rooms of the dollhouse witnessing the private lives of the dolls that inhabited it.
Within this seemingly perfect household, we witnessed three days in the life of a nuclear family plagued by routine, struggling to maintain their facade of perfection amidst their darkest secrets.
Described by Rebecca Haithcoat (LA Weekly) as one of the “most innovative shows in L.A.”, American Dollhouse played for two consecutive weekends in January 2011 at Gallery Godo in Glendale. In addition to live performances, audiences were also able to experience fine-art installations from a variety of established and emerging painters and photographers.
